Thomas Poulsen

Researcher, PhD Fellow

Thomas Poulsen, MBA is a seasoned professional who has specialized in crafting strategy coupled with generating both tactical organic and strategic M&A driven growth for companies and organizations, mainly based on his experience in the transport, shipping, logistics, and supply chain industry. During his 25+ years in the business, Thomas has lived in 8 countries namely his native Denmark, Indonesia (Jakarta), People’s Republic of China (Shanghai), Singapore, Hong Kong (before the hand-over to PRC), USA (New Jersey, California, and Florida), UK (London), and the U.A.E. (Dubai).

 

Thomas has held full-time senior management positions with both shipper Toys”R”Us as well as logistics service providers/shipping companies NOL/APL Logistics, A.P. Moller Maersk/Damco, and ABF/DelCon. Since 2003, Thomas worked in his own consulting firms allowing him to help clients with strategy related issues and to serve as consultant and/or interim leader for strategic M&A driven growth projects, change management projects, IT-driven improvement strategies as well as more tactical general management, commercial, and operational projects. Since 2009, Thomas has furthermore had a special focus on the shipping and logistics needs of the emerging wind part of the renewable energy industry needs with emphasis on strategy setting, general management, and M&A.

 

To supplement his practical knowledge and experience, Thomas obtained an executive MBA in Shipping & Logistics at Copenhagen Business School in 2011. Thomas is presently employed as PhD Fellow at Aalborg University Copenhagen Campus at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and his focus is global wind energy shipping and logistics research.
